Can someone advise on best internet security suite for small business network set-up? We have a small office set-up of 10 computers and we are connected to a small business server. Currently our network is protected with Sophos anti-virus but would like to know if there are other products available that can provide a higher internet security suite for our network? Hello, a friend of mine owns a restaurant, and since I'm in networking program (just finished CCNA1,2) and am in third chapter of ccna3, he asked me to rebuilt his network, which seemed like a pretty easy task, until I came upon this problem that no one ever mentioned in CCNA. So he's got 16 computers that I connected together with cisco 2960 switch, also to the same switch I plugged in two wireless access points for customers in restaurant... now he has an internet connection that is a DSL and has a bandwith of 6Mbps, how do I go from the current setup of this LAN to the DSL modem without suffering a huge bottleneck? (I still have 6 fast ethernet ports and 2 gigabit ethernet ports available on my switch) .. also I would like to put the in-restaurant traffic on separate VLAN from the wirless customer traffic. Obviously with ccna 3 knowledge i know how to do this, but I can't really figure out the way to give both these vlans internet access without using multiple routers or level 3 switch?... I just realized there are so many practical life scenarios that they dont teach you in ccna... Please if you have any solutions about how to setup this network it would be very highly appreciated. Can a broken network switch cause intermittent internet access across an entire network? I just replaced a router on our small business network and all communications within the network are ok. Though when we try to access a webpage the speeds are very inconsistent. There are even times when we get error messages and can't get anything to come up. Best way to set up a school Whireless network over two buildings ? Hello there I'm going to help a public school in setting up a wireless network with shared internet business connection. What i want to know is what's the best way to do this, and the hardware is not a problem, they want a reliable network. So whatever it takes is possible. There are two parts in the building that are far away from each other, what i was thinking is to put one router on each side and connect the two routers with a twisted pair cable, but the distance is gonna be around 150 meters , so im not sure if a 150m length cable is gonna do it, Will i need to install a bridge half the way or not ? Each router is gonna be connected to two access points, one on the right, and the other on the left. The access points will be connected to the router by a cable too. Then the access points will distribute the connection to the computers around it. Is that a good choice, or do you have any suggestions ?

problem with a small business network? I work at a small business. They had several 10/100 10 ports switches all daisy chained together branched off the cable modem. They did not like the look of it so they asked me to come up with a solution. I ordered a netgear WNDR3700 wifi router and a Dlink 1024 24 port 10/100/1000 switch. I also rerouted all of the network cables into a storage closet to clean up the area. I pretty much left everything at default and most of our equipment is set up for DHCP. This improved the network traffic. over the past 6 months we have added several pieces of equipment that also connect to the internet through the network. We have a small business domain that runs off a server running windows 2003 server. All of the workstations are desktops or laptops. the desktops running xp the laptop running windows vista. There is one software program that we run our scheduling and inventory and invoices from that resides on the server and is accessed by the workstations. This software has always ran rather slowly (it is very poorly written software, always has been) but was at least acceptable. The other day they asked me to also move the server into the storage closet. So I shut everything down and moved the server, ran a shorter Cat V cable to it and fired everything back up. The internet access and everything seems to be fine the software on the server is moving so slowly that it's unusable. My question is would grouping the plugs on the switch and managing the IP addresses of the equipment so the domain PCs and server had static IP addresses in a certain range and switching DHCP to like 50-250 instead of 1-250 improve this problem or should I be looking for other factors? There is not an abundance of heat or anything else at work here i just simply moved the server 15 foot into the closet. I am not a networking guy but I know enough to make some changes and setup some things (just enough to be dangerous as I describe it)

How is it possible that my father can track my internet history on our home network? Reason I'm asking is that he's brought up some websites I visited without having mentioned said sites to him previously. If he's aware of those, then God only knows where else I've been. I use Privacy Guardian once a day to wipe my history, but I'm not sure if that 's enough. I want to know if there's some other program he's using to track my history and how can I go about disabling it or tricking it. I know this is stupid, but being 26 years old, I don't think my internet use is any of his business. I don't care where he goes and the same should apply to me. Any ideas? I should mention that I do own my own computer. He's viewing the history from his computer. Also, I do have a job...two in fact. Third, I live at home because I'm saving up enough money for a down payment on a house because I refuse throw away money on rent.
Having network troubles, internet locks up for a few seconds every so often. Need help!? For a while now, the internet connection within my network will lock up briefly for about 10 seconds and then go back to normal. The problem is, it throws all my customers off my application server, which is not a good thing. The network infrastructure looks like this: Internet -> Modem (Business Gateway from Comcast) -> 5 port Gigabit switch -> Server A, Server B, Wireless Router -> Local Wifi So basically the switch has 3 ports connected.. app server, IIS server, and the wifi. Comcast techs have been out here swapping equipment but from their side, the resets aren't being detected and the signal is excellent. Could it be the result of a collision? I noticed with an increase use of the IIS server, the resets are more frequent. What could I do to alleviate this problem in terms of hardware or configuration settings? Switch is Netgear GS105, Comcast is SMC 8014 or something like that. @Brandon - The switch was placed in the network as a solution on Saturday. It was happening even before then. I took out the wireless router (which is necessary) and the network reset twice (once 2h after the removal of the device and then again an hour afterward). DHCP has been disabled already and the IP addresses are static on all of the devices. I noticed that the gateway has reset more often with more use from the IIS server.

HOME NETWORK VS BUSINESS NETWORK HELP! I use my Windows XP laptop at home and at my job. I was having trouble accessing any webpage, "Cannot Display Webpage" would come up. So stupid me, I was trying to locate the problem. My computer was connected to the internet just fine, I rebooted the modems, restarted the computer and the network connections showed they were connected. IT was confirmed by the tech asst guys at Time Warner. But I still could not open a webpage anywhere. So I was messing around and came across the networking troubleshooting options. I used the Networking Connection Wizard...there were two questions that I could choose from....1. This computer is used for a business... or 2. This computer is used for home. I changed it to the HOME option. It changed some settings evidently and NOW after I restarted my computer, I can not log in to it. It won't recognize my password or login. HELP!!!!! Please only serious answers are needed. I really need some guidance in how to get into my computer and then how to change it back!!!!!

How to set up small business network? Here are the details: 1. Total of 12 computers (either laptop or desktop) 2. Only 5 of which I want to have internet access and network sharing capabilities. 3. The rest should only have network sharing capabilities WITHOUT internet access. My initial thought it to buy a 4-Port Router with Wifi and a 16-port hub/switch.
