what's the best passive income strategy for someone with all of savings in an aggressive capital growth fund? someone who wants to go to early retirement has all of his savings in an aggressive capital growth fund. he wants to start earning passive income from investments but does not know how to shift investment strategies. should he gradually move his funds to an income fund (or another investment vehicle) months ahead leading to the target retirement month, or does he move some of his funds to an income vehicle one-time at retirement, keeping the rest in the same fund? thank you for your answers. here are some options that are being considered: - autopilot: moving everything to a lifecycle fund immediately - moving everything to a selected balanced fund gradually - actively manage asset allocation with a mix of fixed income investments while keeping some money in the fund (and others) with the help of a financial advisor
Best buy to let strategy for retirement income ? I want to invest in buy to let properties so that these become my income stream when I retire. However, in order to own the properties outright at that time, the mortgage payments I need to make now will not be covered by rent - so I can't get a btl mortgage against them. Payments for an interest-only mortgage will low enough to be covered by rent, but then I will still have to deal with the principle loan amount, and so never get an income stream. Is there a solution ? Is it a sound strategy to buy to let now in order to sell in a few years time, and the surplus becomes the income ?
Suppose Nevada is considering a novel tax strategy: putting a cap on income taxes? so that no individual ever has to pay more than $50,000 in state income taxes. Suppose the current maximum income tax rate in Nevada is 6% and there are at least 50 people in Nevada who earn over $1 million per year in income. How can Nevada's state tax experts predict that this tax rate decrease will increase state revenues within a year? Assume there is no substantial change in work effort among current Nevada residents.
Has anyone else been taken by Income Strategies Institute? Income Strategies Institute (ISI) holds seminars on investing--stock market, real estate, & internet businesses. I attended an ISI seminar in which they offered to educate & train you to successfully trade on the stock and options markets, via seminars & other provided materials. Their speaker was very motivational & I purchased their Bronze workshop program which provided me with webinars, seminars, & materials to learn stock trading & options. This cost me to this point $ 8,015.00. I received 2 poorly written manuals (these manuals appear to contain plagerized materials--no notations or credits given to anyone & no copy right on manuals), attended 2 webinars, & two 2-day seminars on said subjects. The instructors on the webinars promised notes to be emailed to the students within a day or two. Instead, it took a week+ & seminars were worse! I found everything ISI had charged me for was available on-line or via other sources for free! ISI would not refund my money when asked!

Can I opt to have withheld more CA state income taxes during the year, so I can deduct more on Federal taxes? Living in California, my single biggest federal tax itemized deduction is my state income taxes every year. From what I understand, the amount withheld during the year is deductible. 1) Is the federal deduction based on amount withheld or actual amount owed? 2) Is is possible to legally opt to have the state withhold more money than normal? 3) Barring additional benefits of saving/investing my own income, does this strategy seem advantageous for reducing federal tax liability?
Why Indian income tax rules are so complex ? Every time they try to make them simpler, they become more complex and are subjected to interpretations. Then CBDT has to issue explanatory circulars and chartered accounts have different views and eventually there are litigations. Also there is lack of long term strategy and policy. Many a times Income tax rules are dictated by political pressures. Do you agree to this ? What could be the solution ?

What would be a good investment strategy for me? I'm 28 years old, I make a little over 200K a year and i have over 300K in liquid cash in separate bank accounts. I don't know what to invest in because the market is garbage. Can someone give me some good investment strategies?

How to ensure "capital" tax (instead of income) treatment for investment gains? I have a full-time job unrelated to the securities industry and I use a discount broker to manage my investments and would like to benefit from lower capital gains tax rates for my investment profits. My goal is to hold about 50-70 securities (ETFs, equities) in my portfolio at any given time and I anticipate holding each security for at least 6 months before disposing/selling it. I'd like to add to my positions gradually via dollar-cost averaging and use covered calls to reduce the cost basis. My intent would be to execute about 10-20 buy transactions per month (often I'd be adding to existing positions) and perhaps about 5 sell transactions per month. Would using such a strategy put me at any risk for being flagged an active trader and subject to having gains taxed as income instead of the more favorable capital gains (w/ 50% inclusion) rate? Furthermore, does the use of 15-20% margin significantly affect one's susceptibility to being flagged as an active trader?
Stock / Mutual funds / Hedge funds investment for a yearly income? What is the best strategy to have an annual income, out of a large sum of money you have and want to invest. I am just curious and need info, for a debate with a friend! Thank you in advance, and please do not include real estate investment as an idea.
How does republican strategy of slashing government spending help economy? In my opinion it worsens the economy. 70% of economy is controlled by consumer spending. The more the consumer spends, the more the jobs are created because every dollar that is spent is someone's income. And that someone can then create more jobs because he/she is getting steady flow of funds. The only reason bailout failed is because the bailout was issued to corrupt and companies who have crooks that are in financial management. In short the bailout was never issued to the consumer and that's why it failed. Had the bailout been issued to the general public, it would have resulted in better condition of economy. Government programs spending affects the consumer and cutting government programs hurts the consumer who will also be forced to make cuts. And then economy may worsen. an example of how reduction in government spending hurts the consumer spending. Government does not fix potholes on interstate highways. Several potholes develop and that damages the tires and alignment of vehicles. This will hurt the already financially squeezed consumer, because he will have to get alignment fixed which costs $70 and then get new tires which cost $600 altogether. i already see pothole growth increasing exponentially and government doesn't care to fix it
What is the best financial strategy for paying back student loans? Such as efficiently using forbearance/deferment status, when to consolidate, different payment plans depending on income, etc. Is there any benefit to exhausting forbearance/deferment periods then consolidating the loans? It was my understanding that once the loans are consolidated, you lose possible forbearance/deferment periods for those individual loans.

Please share with us some strategy to make money from FOREX? Please share with us some idea, way, strategy to try to make some money from the forex markets, i heard that some people live on that, i myself tried it with no success, i wonder if one could really depend on that for a living and garantee some monthly income, could that be possible ??
How could lowering marginal rates of income taxes further help the economy? As low as they are now half don't even pay federal income taxes and investment tax rates are so low that investment strategies would change hardly at all. In simple terms; lowering would have no effect. The last morsel at the bottom of the supply side barrel is elimination ie. cutting capital gains and dividend taxes to zero etc. Pennybags: Read the body of my question. Lowering marginal rates wouldn't have any effect on behavior; only eliminating would.
What is the best strategy for reentry into job market after owning business? I decided to buy a business rather than pursue an MBA after 10+ years in sales & marketing positions, including mid-level positions with fortune 500 corporation. The business has been OK, but is not providing the income and satisfaction I had hoped. I would like the lessons learned to assist moving back into a more structured job, and don't want to be branded with the negatives sometimes attributed to entrepreneurs.
What is the logic in terms of macroeconomics to this strategy? One conservative poster wrote: "No, revenues will very likely fall. *We need to get some of those that are not paying Federal income taxes back on the tax rolls and we need to stop "refunding" people money that they didn't previously pay in during the year.*" * mine What is the theory here? What is the game plan? everyone pays some taxes. and earned income applies to everyone.

How to change the income-earning strategy to a marketing startegy tool? Hi all. My question might be a bit vague. I work for a high-end lifestyle magazine (bi-monthly) that is published 6 times (issues) per year. We have a budget of around $2,200,000 per year for it. The problem is that we were depending on our advertisers for the income. However, becasue of the recession, till now we didn't cover even 25% of the budget. I believe that since our magazine is still local and new to the market, its quite normal, especially there are many competitors in the market. Now we plan to keep going on publishing until end of 2010 because we have the money. Then we can evaluate its advertisors traffic. My question: I want to make a marketing strategy report to the MD to explain all this. That is, to turn this magazine from an income earning, to a marketing tool. Can you help me? thx ISOLA magazine is a UDC (United Development Company) publication specifically designed to be the authority Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine in Qatar, UAE, Middle East and the region. In addition if we sell this property, we will have to take an additional loss of ~10,000$. Are there any strategies to take advantage of these losses or do simply have to hold on to this property until we break even (which may take a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly long time) Would appreciate help from experts!!!
Where should we invest or save our personal income? My husband and I are frugal, and we love to save as much as we can. I max out my 401k yearly, but my husband's employer doesnt offer any retirement benefits so we max out our IRA's. We started to save $10K a year and put it in an emergency fund. However, we still have $3K a month to save. Where should we invest it? Our net worth is less than $500K, and we make gross $150K/year combined and no kids yet. A financial advisor suggested putting the extra $3K a month in a variable annuity or stocks, but didnt suggest CD/Treasury Bonds, etc. What's the best financial wealth strategy for a couple in their mid 30's?
Changing investment strategy with age.? I am heavily invested in assets that have mostly capital appreciation with little income. I need to start gradually changing my strategy to income investments. Do I simply put all new investments into income investments or do I do something with the money I have invested so far as well? Everybody talks about changing investment strategies with age but no details. Any thoughts?
Is this a valid/legal Retirement Strategy? Means testing for social security is imminent. The age for full benefits can only be raised so high. Being responsible now by funding IRA's will backfire later when I will not be paid as much as someone who didn't save. Not saving is not an option. Can I begin transferring money to my children via gift, with the understanding they will return it later? I realize it would technically be income, however they could pay for my home, car, or my whatever; without actually transferring cash.

Minimize Income taxes? Hi all, I pay around$15,000 in my Federal income tax every year. What is the best strategy to lower income tax. I own home and have one 3 year old boy. Please suggest me ASAP. Thanks Suki
A good investment strategy for a well-off 80-year old? My mom has paid off her house and car and has good income as well as good insurance (including long-term care) and a reserve fund in savings. She has about $150k to invest (that will be basically money for her heirs). Her financial advisor is recommending $100k in a variable annuity and $50k in a REIT. Is this a good option? What else would you recommend? The financial manager doesn't charge up-front fees, is he sucking away our money through hidden fees? You guys are awesome! I personally just use Vanguard and would NEVER get an advisor unless I just paid a fee up-front for advice. I think this guy has been hanging around trying to weasel his way into her emotional life to make commissions off her cash. She's in a low-tax state (her heirs are in high-tax ones) so I would prefer Vanguard stocks and bonds for this money she won't need.
Are there any ways to include student loans on a bankruptcy judgment? What if the person filing bankruptcy either has a disability or has a low income? What type of strategies exist for having school loans included on a bankruptcy? Thanks
What is the last date for a gift to count on 2006 taxes? I will be receiving a number of financial gifts over the next few years and am wondering if a gift given today (or in Feb/March?) would still be eligible for the 2006 tax year. Much as with an IRA you can contribute money in early 2007 to reduce your 2006 income, can you use this same strategy for financial gifts?...have a gift of $10,000 today be counted towards that person's gift limit to me for 2006?
Any advice on a strategy for reducing debt? My wife and I both have substantial student loans. However, I consolidated mine at 3.5%, but her's were consolidated at 8.25%. Just to pay her interest is $700/month. My payment is $300, with 1/3 currently going to principle. We also have about $8,000 on credit cards at 10% interest. Our combined income is about $100,000 annually. Right now, I pay the $350 on my loan each month, and about $1,200 on hers. At that rate, her loan should be paid off in around 8 years. I just feel like I may need to rethink this approach, as it seems like we make a lot of money, but are not getting anywhere fast against our debt. Oh, we also have about 75G's in our 401Ks and put away 10% of our salary. We're early 30's. Any thoughts on how to reduce this debt more quickly? Some days it feels like we'd be better off defaulting and going to work at MacDonalds...lol Thanks to everyone for taking the time to provide such great information. Looks like the theme is to pay off the highest interest debt first, while reducing montly expenses. I am going to stop overpaying my wife's loan until the credit card debt is gone. Also, I think it's time to track just how much money we spend on food and drink each month! Time to bite the bullet. Oh yeah....wish I could reconsolidate her loan, but that will take an act of Congress. Not really fair that you can refi your house but not your student loans.
Is YOUTUBE.com killing two birds with just one stone with the new strategy of paying users? Just recently I answered a question regarding the source of income of Youtube: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Amy__HHAXKtckA1UVqYIYZDsy6IX?qid=20070121042940AAyNWBI Today Youtube announced that they will start a new strategy of paying users for uploading videos, sharing their advertising income with active users. In my opinion it is a very nice strategy for everybody: Youtube, Ad companies and of course users. But... and here is my question: By doing this, is Youtube also transferring the copyright responsability to users, being totally "free" from being sued over copyright infringement? I have seen this "trick" in other situations, just wanted to know your opinion about this. The best answer surely gets 10 points.
I was just wondering the best investment strategies for a college graduate.. no student loans, but low income. I'm a recent college grad, who is lucky enough to be loan free. I have two jobs, with meager pay.. combined i make roughly $1500 per month. Can anyone recommend decent short term and/or long term investment strategies for me to utilize? I want to save money progressively, but I don't know where to begin. Also, I have a bad habit of squandering money easily. So I'm just seeing what I can to start a foundation to start saving big. Thank you for any input!

What is best book to purchase about how to do your own investing in today's global market? We are retired with no debt and no expectation of inheritance. Fortunately, we can live on our retirement income. We already have most of our portfolio with Vanguard and Fibelity, two investment companies that charge low fees. I feel a need to better understand the large amount of data and graphs that are available, but not sure what to focus on first and how to combine all the data and graphs together to make a decision that is best for us. I also like following world events and read on history, and know information in these areas are also important, but not sure how to integrate into our investment strategy.
